Azul Linhas Aereas Brasileiras said Wednesday it plans to open a training center for pilots and air stewards to close the gap in supply of professionals as air traffic grows in Brazil.
Azul, which has been operating for three years after being started by David Neeleman, founder of JetBlue Airways Corp. (JBLU), is preparing for “rigorous” growth in coming years.
The airline plans to add a net of 12 airplanes to its fleet this year to meet demand, even as rivals cut back. Neeleman told reporters that he can expand flights because he is entering medium-sized cities that are underserved by rivals.
