Brazilian Indians attack police outpost

SAO PAULO (AP) — The government of Brazil’s jungle state of Para says Indians raided and torched a police outpost, apparently retaliating for the release of suspects in the recent murder of a member of their tribe.

A state government website says Wednesday that 50 members of the Munduruku tribe burned the outpost to the ground Monday night in the city of Jacareacanga. It says all four police officers fled when the Munduruku attacked.

The site says the Indians were apparently angry over the release of two of the four suspects in the stabbing death of a Munduruku man two weeks ago.
