Weak economy pushes Brazil to protectionism

Brazil’s economy remains stagnant and will likely grow less than the U.S. this year.

Recent GDP figures showed industrial output near recession levels.

And on Tuesday, Brazilian Finance Minister announced new import tariffs for around 100 products.  In the announcement, the government said that the duty hikes were needed to ease price differentials caused by the ever weakening global economic outlook.
