Brazil’s president announces cabinet changes ahead of elections

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff announced some long-expected changes to her cabinet Thursday, including replacing her chief of staff, Gleisi Hoffman, with Education Minister Aloizio Mercadante.

Brazilian news organizations have predicted changes for weeks as Ms. Rousseff and her Workers Party prepare for national and state elections later this year.

Ms. Rousseff will replace Mr. Mercadante at the education ministry with the current deputy minister, Jose Henrique Paim Fernandes.
