Brazil House Leader Charged With Graft in Petrobras Case

The powerful speaker of Brazil’s lower house of Congress, Eduardo Cunha, was charged with corruption on Thursday, intensifying a political crisis that has paralyzed the nation’s leadership and worsened a painful economic downturn.

Attorney General Rodrigo Janot filed criminal charges before Brazil’s Supreme Court against Mr. Cunha for allegedly pocketing bribes in connection with a sweeping graft scandal at state-run oil giant Petróleo Brasileiro SA, or Petrobras.
