Brazil’s Central-Bank President Could Lose Cabinet Post in Austerity Move


Brazil’s central bank is grappling with high inflation, a painful economic downturn and a tumbling currency. Now, its leader is facing the prospect of getting booted from the president’s cabinet.

President Dilma Rousseff’s administration is looking to shed as many as 10 of Brazil’s 39 ministries this year as part of an austerity effort to shrink government spending.


Among the targets is Alexandre Tombini, president of the central bank, according to people in government familiar with the matter.
