U.S. senators and leading Latin American legislators send letter to president Maduro calling for transparent and democratic legislative elections in Venezuela

In an unprecedented display of unity, 157 leading legislators from the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru sent a joint letter to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro calling for “free, transparent, and democratic” legislative elections on December 6th.

The letter was spearheaded by Senator Ben Cardin, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee; Senador Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Federal Senate of Brazil; Senador Luis Fernando Velasco Chaves, President, Senate of the Republic of Colombia; Senador Patricio Walker Prieto, President, Senate of the Republic of Chile; Diputado Rafael Ortiz, President, Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Costa Rica; and Congresista Luis Ibérico Núñez, President, Congress of the Republic of Peru.

Signors include: 18 United States Senators, 32 Brazilian Senators, 57 Colombian Senators, 12 Chilean Senators, 25 Costa Rican Legislative Assembly Members, and 13 Peruvian Legislative Assembly Members.
