SAO PAULO — Brazil’s former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was admitted to hospital on Sunday suffering from a “mild lung infection” two weeks after completing radiation therapy for larynx cancer.
A statement from Sirio-Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo said the 66-year-old former leader was diagnosed with a fever along with the infection and would be treated with antibiotics and remain there for several days.
Lula, a former smoker who is known for his raspy voice, was diagnosed with cancer last October.
